Chitrashaala 2015 - The International Art Residency

The impact of a space on creative output cannot be stressed enough. From architecture to music to art, Delhi continues to what we did in rajasthan; to fascinate artists across genres. Chitrashaala pays homage to this legacy by bringing together thirty two noteworthy artists from India and overseas. The Jehan's wide spread and aroma will nurture artistic character to precedence the freedom of the creative spirit, nature and aesthetic imperatives in the midst of a universalist as opposed to a nationalist framework which indeed is what helps it stand out. Any artistic or aesthetic legacy is, by its very nature, complex and to understand. This time "The Jehan", Delhi, has come to terms with its breadth and scope. Chitrashaala 2015, Delhi will allow artists to explore this legacy and vision in their own ways and the results are certain to speak eloquently of not just a sense of joie-de-vivre but of unashamedly reveling in the act of creation. As much a learning experience as a grand creative gathering, Chitrashaala 2015 seeks to provide visual artists with exposure to a wide range of works in terms of form, content and style thereby contributing to the development of artistic expression as well as creative dialogues and possible future collaborations.

The significance and the role of culture in the formulation of identity are aspects which can no longer be ignored. In this context, the different facets of the cultural identity of the individual and of the local communities are constantly subject to a process of renewal and revision. Chitrashaala 2015 will play a key role in this process, as it is an ideal location where, in a festive atmosphere, different cultural streams and phenomena closely linked to creative communities find a platform for free expression. It aims to present a vital process of circulating and giving visibility to the different cultural streams of both Indian and international art which represents a significant step toward the development of creative dialogues. It also, while respecting and promoting the diversity of the artists, cultures, values and traditions, highlights a common heritage by promoting a culture of mutual exchange.

Chitrashaala 2015 is likely to be a unique expression of the love of art which whilst rooted in the local environment, is also linked to national and international contexts. It will help stimulate innovation and respect a common cultural heritage and shaping understanding and respect among the artistic community as a whole. It will help build an effective cultural dialogue, in the conviction that such a dialogue represents an essential tool for interaction among different individuals from a variety of socio-cultural backgrounds. Such interaction, in turn, is certain to encourage a respectful and enriching exchange of ideas and help identify the boundaries that define individuals and communities.

Of the many artists at Chitrashaala 2015, Delhi; there are many award winning realistic artist who has worked in both conventional and unconventional spaces. Couple of them possess over 10 years of ink and watercolour works that have been critically and commercially acclaimed both in India and overseas.

The importance of Chitrashaala 2015, Delhi not to be underestimated. More events of this nature are required for both emerging and established artists as they are an all too rare opportunity to mix and work with a variety of professionals from all genres of the visual arts. It acknowledges a common cultural heritage while, at the same time, respects the cultural diversity of the participants. It is, above all, a meeting place, for the exchange of ideas and practices and demonstrates how dialogue is essential to nourish and enrich culture, particularly within a specific context.
